Weekly Thoughts ... August 17-23

After a lively Friends of Real Food meeting last Wednesday, I have a better idea about what kinds of foods I can expect to find locally (thanks to Jennifer's great presentation!). Group members shared names and stories about where they find tasty and local cheeses, grains, meats, and more! Let's continue the discussion on the blog!

As a local organic farmer, I'll probably have no trouble eating well, and locally, during the Eat Local Challenge. My biggest challenge however -- and this might highlight a different aspect of eating locally -- is trying to find people to buy the food I grow after tending to the crops in the field all day. I have, for instance, a large amount of wonderful, certified organic kale and carrots that will be ready to go for the Eat Local Challenge, but no buyers as yet. Hopefully, this week will highlight this other, formidable, challenge for those who grow local food.

Jeff,

The Food section of this week's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had an article that included this web site.

It also had the link for www.grocersbuylocal.com/grocers.html
"A Web site and database open to Wisconsin grocers who are purchasing, or are interested in purchasing, locally grown food."

Might be a good resource for you
