The great peach farmer and poet, Mas Masumoto, recently said that the future of farming lies in "the story of food".

My challenge this week wil be to know better the stories of all the foods I eat. This will play out in the garden fresh foods, backyard eggs, and Wisconsin farmstead cheeses I eat on a regular basis, but extend to learning the story of where the salt I use comes from and learning more about the soil conditions, harvesting practices, production methods, and people involved in creating all of the "fair-trade" products I enjoy: coffee, wine, olive oil. Therein lies the challenge for me- to take enough time to truly get to know the story that comes along with ALL of my choices.
